LINDSAY — Funeral Mass for Wilbert Joseph "Sonnie" Block, 84, of Lindsay has been set for Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Father Raymond McDaniel, Ken Robinson and Stephen Bierscherk officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Block passed away at his residence in Lindsay on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011.

Sonnie was born March 1, 1926 in Lindsay, the oldest of eight children to Pete and Pauline Laux Block. On May 11, 1957 he married Anna Mae Dieter in St. Peter's Church. He graduated from Lindsay High school in 1943. He served two years in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He worked at North Texas Compress, Crystal Creamery and Agricultural Enterprises. He worked for National Supply Company for 30 years, retiring in 1988.

Sonnie was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a 67 year member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the city council in Lindsay for 30 years. He enjoyed traveling, playing dominoes and cards, watching wrestling, always keeping a tidy home place and talking about city history.

Sonnie is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Natalie and Dale Ray Alexander of Lindsay and Annette and Bill Bayer of Muenster; sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Brenda Block of Lindsay, Glenn (Tic) and Sonya Block of Lindsay and Tim Block of Lindsay; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice "Tootsie" Kuntz of Valley View, Evelyn Fuhrman of Lindsay, Elfrieda Wagner of Perry, Okla., Mary Alice Looney of Fort Worth, Irene Loerwald of Bedford and Patty Hemmi of Scotland.

Sonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Pauline Block; wife, Anna Mae who died in August of 2006; brother, Gene Block and son-in-law, Don Alexander.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

A Rosary will be held this evening, Feb. 3, 2011 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
