Empire- Richard A. Baatz, 55, of empire, died Friday at home.
A life long resident of Empire, he had been the owner of Valley Roofing Co. for the last 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Born Sept. 30, 1938, in Empire he was the son of Wilfred and Dorthy (Bowen) Baatz. On June 12, 1958, he married the former Barbara Harding. On June 27, 1975, he married the former Mary Voice, who survives.
He is also survived by his first wife, Barbara; two sons, Richard D. Baatz of Boyne City and William G. Baatz of Traverse City; two daughters, Deborah Decker of Traverse City and Cynthia Baatz of Lake Ann; one stepson, William E. Hays, and one stepdaughter, Cindy L. Hays both of Traverse City; 11 Grandchildren; his father, Wilfred E. Baatz of Traverse City; three brothers, Wilfred J. Baatz of Kingsley, Dale Baatz of Lake Ann and Peter Baatz of Traverse City; and one sister, Dorothy Erickson of Traverse City.
He was preceeded in death by one grandchild, Travis Bigelow; two brothers, David and Don Baatz; and his mother, Dorothy Doyle.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. The Rev. Don Moore officiated. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kingsley.
