Karolina was born in Klostitz, Bessarabia, Russia. She married Christian Ost in 1860. With their last child, Anna Maria Ost, they immigrated to the United States in 1902 on the ship The Columbia. Christian and Karolina were respected members of the community of Krem, a town that no longer exists. Karolina and Christian celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1909. After Karolina died in 1911, Christian remarried in 1913 to Elizabeth Brenner. Karolina is buried with Christian in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery of Krem north of Hazen.
