Adele Calley Gammons, wife of Ellis Gay Gammons passed away at her home on Main Street Friday afternoon, January 15th after a ten days illness. She was born in Holderness, now Ashland, March 29, 1866, a daughter of Ruel W. and Elizabeth C. (Wright) Ladd. She married Ellis Gammons May 20, 1896. Her whole life was spent in Ashland where by the thoughtfulness and unselfishness she always showed for others, she endeared herself to acquaintances and friends as was evidenced by the number and beauty of floral tributes.
She was a member of Ashland Rebekah Lodge and had always been one of the most active members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church where her loyalty and untiring devotion in its behalf was noted not only by other members, but by Officials of the Diocese as well and from its circle she will be sadly missed
Simple services impressively conducted by Rev. G.S. Girardet of St. Mark's Church and Rev. Arthur N. Dunstan of Concord were held at the home Monday afternoon. January 18th. Bearers were Dr. L.M. Orton, Harold A. Webster, Fred W. Brown and Harry R. Spaulding. Frank O. Chick of Pittsfield was undertaker. Burial was in Green Grove Cemetery.
Besides her husband age is survived by two sons, Philip E. and Samuel W., one daughter, Mrs. Roger McGlone and three grandchildren, all of this place and one sister, Mrs. Maria Quimby of Gloucester. The Ashland Citizen, January 23, 1926, p2.
