Dean was born Jan. 20, 1930, a son of Wilfred Floyd and Velma Olive Martin Fugate. He married Wilma Barrett on June 17, 1951, in Good Hope. She died March 3, 1999.
Dean worked in electronics for Gates Radio and later Harris Corp. for more than 17 years, but his greatest love was farming.
He was a 1947 graduate of Downing (Mo.) High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the Signal Corps. He was baptized in the Southern Baptist Church in Durham. Dean and his wife, Wilma, loved collecting rocks and hunting for Indian artifacts.
He was a member of the Gem City Rock Club and the Mississippi Valley Archeological Society.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Fugate of Liberty; three grandchildren, Roy J. Fugate of Blandinsville, Christine M. Fugate of Minneapolis and Rhonda Lee Fugate of Liberty; a brother, Robert (Beatrice) Fugate of Downing; a sister, Jeaniece (Don) Warner of Arcadia, Mo.; and nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Corey Fugate; a brother, Howard Fugate; and a sister, Viola Fugate.
SERVICES: 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
