Fern L. McDaniel, 83, of Frontenac, died at 6:21 a.m, Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born, January 5, 1928 at Hepler, Kansas to Edward Marion Westhoff and Gertrude Frances (Fager) Westhoff. She grew up and attended school in Hepler and graduated from high school there. She was united in marriage to Robert N. McDaniel on June 3, 1948 at Hepler. He preceded her in death in 1999. Following their marriage, they moved to Parsons where she operated a daycare from her home for many years.

She enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. In 2000, she moved to Frontenac. She worked at the United Methodist Church's Kid's First Daycare in Frontenac.

She attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac and had attended the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons.

Survivors include: Two Sons, Robert "Ron" McDaniel of Parsons and Joe McDaniel of Eugene, Oregon; Three Daughters, Nila Robinson of McCune, Kathy Martin of Frontenac and Donna Schmidt of Parsons; Sixteen Grandchildren; Twenty-one Great-grandchildren; One Brother, Bob Westhoff of Parsons; Three Sisters, Patty Lucas of Omaha NE, Doris Prickett of Kansas City, KS and Ellen Harris of Girard. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters one son, one grandson and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011 a the St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial following at the St. Patrick Cemetery at Walnut, Kansas. The rosary will be held Wednesday evening a the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
