Mary E. "Betty" Schall, 84, of Lafayette Avenue died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Schall moved from Belleville, Mich., to Columbus in 1997. A 1938 graduate of Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, she was a homemaker, a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Parish and enjoyed reading, painting, flowers and her family and friends. She also was an artist and was well-known for her wonderful pie-making skills.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Todd Goodson officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Cremation will follow the service at The Columbus Crematory.

Memorials may be made to Columbus Regional Hospital or Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Ann Arbor, Mich., Nov. 14, 1920, Mrs. Schall was the daughter of Walter J. and Kathryn J. Widmann Opal. She married Richard W. Schall Nov. 25, 1950, at Belleville.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Theresa (Martin) Books of Columbus; a son, Michael W. Schall of Medora; sisters, Dorothy Wildeman of Sacramento, Calif., Carol Faircloth of West Monroe, La., and Joan Kelly of Spring Hill, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Beverly Opal of Milan, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews; and her granddog, Frita.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard J. Opal; and a niece, Cynthia K. Morris.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary E. "Betty" Schall of Lafayette Avenue was conducted Friday, June 3, 2005, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Todd Goodson officiating. Cantor was Marilyn Welker, pianist was Camilla Gehring, reader was Millie Harmon, gifts were presented by Phil and Dorothy Peffley and special family remarks were given by Joan Kelly and Theresa Books.

Pallbearers were William A. and John M. Kelly, Ralph J. Schall Jr., Michael W., Thomas V. and Steven P. Schall.

Cremation followed the mass at The Columbus Crematory.

Mrs. Schall is survived by a brother, Robert (Constance) Opal of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Mrs. Schall died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Arrangements were entrusted to Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street.
