Jakob was born in Freudental, Grossliebental, Bessarabia, Russia. Jakob married Friedrike Becker in 1879 in Russia. Friedrike died there, along with their infant son, Friedrick. Jakob then married Eva Schrader in 1881 and immigrated to the United States with Eva and three sons. Around 1893, he and Eva divorced, and Jakob married Katerina Sailer in Eureka, South Dakota, having several more children. Jakob later moved to Nashua, Montana, died there, and is buried in the Glasgow Highland Cemetery. He is buried in Lot #0531, Block 9999, 30 feet west of Walker memorial. The grave is a single plot with a flat marker. The cemetery records have the owner listed under "Christensen". Burial arrangements were made by J. Christmann of Ree, North Dakota (his oldest son, Jake).
