Born Oct 23, 1894, in Shubert, Richardson CO, NE to Joseph Burton Harper and Maggie Luena Bricker Harper. Serena went by the name of Vern and lived in many states growing up NE, KS, OK, OR, and WA. She met Ray Bailey in Gove Co KS when his family moved from Pratt CO, KS when Ray and Serena were teenagers. Her famlly moved to Platte CO, NE and Ray followed her there. They were married in Columbus NE on August 5, 1914, and returned to KS for approximately 3 years then returned to Platte Co, NE where they settled on a farm in Monroe and raised 9 children. In 1944 they moved to Willamina, OR. 8 of their 9 children also caem to Oregon and settled nearby. Serena died in Sheridan on the 57th anniversary of her marriage to Ray.
