DAVENPORT -- Esther A. Baker, 98, Davenport, passed away Monday, July 9, 2001, at Davenport Good Samaritan Center.

Private funeral services will be held. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Runge Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Baker retired in 1966 from Wonder Bakery, Davenport.

She was born April 28, 1903, in Davenport, a daughter of William and Helena (Kohl) Gromoll. On Feb. 7, 1922, she married Joseph Baker in Davenport. He died in 1974.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport, and a former member of the Legion of Mary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Davenport Good Samaritan Center, Building 3.

Survivors include children and spouses, Esther (Mrs. Harvey) Peters, Davenport, Joe and Bev Baker, Moline, and Ron and Rose McGill, Eldridge, Iowa; son-in-law, John W. Ellerman, Tillamook, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by daughters, Joan Meyer and Elizabeth Ellerman; and a great-granddaughter.
