Clarke County Democrat September 17, 2015 - James Enoch Campbell, 96, of Grove Hill died 7 Sept. 2015 at a Mobile Infirmary. He was born 7 Dec. `1918 in Wilcox Co., AL & moved to Grove Hill as a young child. Mr. Campbell was one of 13 children of Clarence & Jesse Maude Walton Campbell. He began a long career as a master wood working craftsman. Launching the career at the age of 17 when he began work with the conservation corp. (c. c. camp) during the F.D.R. administration. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in European-African Theaters during WW II. After the war he returned to his home near Allen resuming his career in farming & building furniture. With his training in woodworking he worked from the 1950's - 1970's with McClendon Manufacturing Company, later McGuire Church Pews Manufacturing & Dumas Manufacturing. He finished his years of working with Alabama State Hwy. Dept. wood working shop. After his retirement he continued his love for working with wood building & replicating furniture at the Campbell's Refinishing Shop. Many family members continue to enjoy furniture that Mr. Campbell built. This was a joy for him & for those who have these handcrafted items.
Survivors include 2 sons: Lou (Betty) Campbell-Grove Hill, Roger (Nancy) Campbell-Marion, VA; daughter: Jane (Mike) Patterson-Opelika; 2 bros.: Bennie Campbell-Columbia, Tenn & Gerald Campbell-Grove Hill; sister: Edna Tarleton-Grove Hill; 5 grandchildren: Linnie (Eric) Roman-Fulton, Lesley (Randall) Jones-Millry, Kristin (Bobby)Michael-Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Campbell-Myrtle Beach, SC, Ryan (Regina) Kearley-Auburn; 5 great-grandchildren: Campbell & Clarke Graves, Avery & Morgan Michael & James Austin Kearley.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 yrs. in 2011, Jimmie Bernice Fowler Campbell. The service was 12 Sep at Union Bapt. Church at 11 am. Burial was in Union Bapt. Church Cem. in Grove Hill.
Special Thanks was issued to caregivers of the last 6 yrs. Active & Honorary pallbearers were named in the obit.
