Would you consider, please to post the following, which is a direct quote from Kermit's older brother, Jim LaBelle:

I salute and give personal tribute to my brother Kermit H. LaBelle, Jr. who sacrificed his life while serving in the US Marines. He was killed near the DMZ, Quang Tri Province, Vietnam on July 28, 1967. He had 41 days left to serve before going home. He volunteered to take a buddy's watch while he got ready to go on 'R & R' when an RPG came in. My younger brother was 18 y/o

ON THE WALL Panel 24E Line 012Kermit the son of Kermit H. La Belle Sr. who pre-deceased him and Clara La Belle of Fairbanks Alaska, dear brother of James W. La Belle US Navy, USN Heavy Attack SQDN-123,NAS Whidby Island Washington; enlisted in the US Marine Corps on February 24 1966 in Portland OR. In Vietnam he was assigned to and serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 9th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

On July 9, the Battalion established an new Command Post at Cam Lo in northern Quang Tri Province, participating in operation HICKORY II, in support of Operation KING FIRSHER. On July 28 the Company was in a defensive position northeast of Gio Linh when incoming enemy mortars hit killing PFC Kermit La Belle by shrapnel and wounded another Marine.
