Macomb County - John Janssen of Jefferson Ave died June 22, 1918 of Carcinoma of Esophagus, aged 63y10mo. He is a retired grocer; married to Mary Janssen. Born Aug 25, 1854 in Ofaledorf(sic), Germany son of Henry Janssen & unknown mother. Informant was Mary Janssen of 1207 Helen St in Detroit, MI. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cem in Detroit. NOTE: he was born in Pfalzdorf, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

He filled out a US Passport Application in 1906 -
John Janssen born Pfalzdorf, Germany on Aug 25, 1854. Emigrated to the USA, aboard the s/s Hohenstaufen from Bremen on or about Apr 27, 1881. "I have resided 24yrs, 1881-1906, in Detroit. I was naturalized as a citizen of the US at Circuit Court in Detroit on March 26, 1906 as shown by the accompaning Certificate of Naturalization. I live permanently in Detroit, Michigan, occupation is a grocer. I am about to go abroad temporarily & will return to the US within 2yrs." Swore an oath of allegiance & signed the paper, John Janssen. Notarized. Description: age 51yrs, height 5'8", high forehead, blue eyes, usual nose, full mouth, round chin, dark blonde hair, fair complexion, round face. Identification was provided by Wm. Janssen of 509 Prombly Ave in Detroit who swore he knew the above described man & that the information given was true.
