George Chohel Abe, 93, of Gering, passed away February 14, 2016 at The Residency in Scottsbluff. George was born November 30, 1922 in Gilroy, CA to Tomokichi and Ine (Sato) Abe. After high school, he attended one year at San Jose State. During WWII, George and his family were evacuated to Heart Mountain Japanese Internment Camp in Wyoming. He was later drafted into the US Army and served in the 441st Counter Intelligence Corpse Occupational Force in Japan. George was honorably discharged from the service in 1946.
George returned to Meriden, WY where he began his life-long farming career and met and married Mabel Kishiyama in 1948 and began a family. George retired from farming in 1981 when he and Mabel moved to Scottsbluff. In 2001 George and Mabel moved to Northfield Retirement Community n Gering where they still reside. George was an avid fisherman his whole life and later enjoyed golfing, gardening and photography. George will be truly missed by his family and friends. His parents Ine and Tomokichi Abe, sisters Mutsako Shomura, Joyce Gonzales, Mary Furuike, and brother Tom Abe preceded him in death.
