James L. Hemler, 67, of Dallastown, away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 27, 2011. He was the husband of Georgianna (Heiland) Hemler, to whom he was married 41 years. They were married on June 28, 1969, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dallastown.

Born January 2, 1944, in Dallastown, he was the son of the late Francis P. and Mabel (Schuchart) Hemler.

He worked many years for Lyon Metal and then AMP-Tyco for many years until his retirement. He was a very active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Dallastown and a 1961 graduate of York Catholic High School. He was also a member of The Viking Club, Victory Athletic Association, and Dallastown American Legion Post #605, serving as a drummer in the Legion band.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hemler is survived by two children, Jeff and Sharon, both of Dallastown; and two grandchildren, James V. of Florida and Pennie J. of Dallastown. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph H. Hemler and his wife, Eileen of Pottstown; and four sisters, Margaret Huson of York, Teresa Godfrey and her husband, Richard of Felton, Frances Brandt and her husband, William of Hagerstown, Md., and Elizabeth Reheard and her husband, John of Tennesee. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Bailey and Mary Kathleen Altland. James will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and his buddy, Sassy the dog.

Burial will be in Dallastown Union Cemetery with full military honors provided by Dallastown American Legion Post #605 Honor Guard. Mr. Hemler was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Independence.
