Smithfield, IL - James L. Fouts, 72, of Smithfield died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, July 19, 1991, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

Born Jan. 9, 1919, in Bryant to Minor A. and Mary V. Ford Fouts, he married Dorothy G. Joyce on April 17, 1944, in Danville, Ind. She died Dec. 7, 1985.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Rusty, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathy Lindsey of Canton; two sisters, Edwana Rich of Canton and Maralyn Jennings of Lewistown; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was employed for 40 years as a meat cutter, working at Bettison's Market in Canton and the Davis Store in St. David before retiring in 1982.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 784 in Canton.

He also was a member of Nazarene Church of Smithfield.

Burial will be in Maryville Cemetery in Bryant.
