Grant Aadnesen was born in Ogden, Utah, April 10, 1915. He was the son of Christopher and Bertha Stone Aadnesen. He graudated from Ogden High School, attended the University of Utah where he was the Senior Class President, member of the Honorary Societies, Skull & Bones, Owl & Key, Debate, and The Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Grant graduated from the University of Chicago with a Doctor of Law degree where he served on the Board of Editors of the Law Review and a member of Phi Delta Phi.


Active in the military, he was a senior instructor of the Institute of Military Studies, University of Chicago. In the US Marine Corp he saw action during World War II in New Guinea, where he was a participant in the Owen Stanley Mountains Patrol and Cape Gloucester, New Britain, and the Peleliu and Okinawa landings and campaigns. After the war he was stationed with Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, San Diego, Calif. as Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Reserve Training Unit, a member of the Board of Directors of the Navy National League of the United States and President of the Utah Chapter. Grant retired from the Marine Corps as a Major.During Grant's law practice he was a partner of Ray, Quinney, and Nebeker for some 20 years, litigating court cases in Utah and many other state and federal courts on State Regulatory boards, commissions and administrations. He was of counsel to several other Utah law firms, specializing in litigation. He enjoyed a private practice and retirement. He was general counsel for the State of Utah and the Salt Lake Medical Association for approximately 17 years, during which time he was a member of the Board of Directors and General Counsel of Blue Cross and Blue Shield and a member of the National Retirement Board. He served as Chairman of the Utah State Bar Examiners for five years and was a past president of the Salt Lake County Bar Association. Grant retired to Oceanside, California in 1998.


Grant C. Aadnesen is survived by his wife, Jane Ray, whom he married September 9, 1939; his three children, Paul, Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Christopher, Georgetown, Texas and Monterey, Mexico; Mary Anne Aadnesen-Norris, Vista, California; and sister, Oertel Hoit, Pocatello, ID.


Grant will be cremated and placed at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, 231 E. 100 South, Salt Lake City. Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7, 1998 at St. Mark's at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers you may send donations "In memory of Grant C. Aadnesen, Maj. USMCR Ret." to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Box 555006, MCB, Camp Pendleton, CA 92055.
