Drops Dead on Winfield Street

Winfield - Roy Fletcher, 76-year-old retired farmer and stock buyer, dropped dead on the street near the Farmers National bank at 5:20 Thursday evening. Cause of death was a heart attack.

Fletcher was the son of John and Katheine Fletcher, and was born at Sheffield, Ill. on Oct. 3, 1872. In youth, he moved to Crawfordsville, and at Crawfordsville was married to Alice Griffith on June 18, 1891. He farmed in the Wyman-Spring Run vicinity, spending most of his adult life in Louisa county.

In April, 1944, the Fletchers moved to Winfield.

Survivings are the widow; a son, Harry Fletcher of Wapello, and a daugher, Mrs. Hazel Klopfenstein of Winfield. Another daughter, Mrs. Pearl Gipple, is dead. Also surviving are 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Frank, Clint and James Fletcher, of Winfield; Eugene Fletcher, Wapello; Grace and Nell Fletcher, both of Crawfordsville. Two brothers and 3 sisters are dead. There are 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral rites will be held at Winfield Methodist church at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Roger L. Crabtree will officiate, and burial will be in the Columbus City cemetery. The body is at the Barton funeral home.
