Barton F. Johnson
Barton F. Johnson, 62, Lincoln, died Saturday (6/17/06) as a result of a remodeling accident in his home, using his creative gifts to bring beauty to his surroundings. His life, as well as death, is a witness to the grace and goodness of God.
A native of Lanyon, Iowa, he attended North Park College and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Harrington Institute of Interior Design at the University of Chicago. We celebrate his work as an interior designer, patron of the arts and inspirational mentor for cancer survival groups in Lincoln and across the Midwest.
A member of the American Society of Interior Designers, his career in interior design began in Lincoln in 1968 at Armstrong Furniture and Interiors. He was design manager for Miller & Paine Department Stores and served as manager of Ethan Allen Furniture since 1993. He was a longtime member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, serving on the National Board of Christian Education. Current member of First Plymouth Congregational Church. Other civic and community involvement includes: co-chair of the Governor's Mansion Restoration Project and the TADA board of directors. He will be missed by family, friends and community.
Survivors: wife, daughter, son, brothers, mother-in-law, sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and beloved friends and family. Awaiting Barton's homecoming: parents, Morris and Florence Johnson; brothers, James and Michael; father-in-law, Vernon Adee; beloved friend, Hildegard Patterson.
