Mary M. Pfau, 95, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Esmond, ND, died on Tuesday afternoon, November 18, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family.

Funeral services for Mary will be held Monday, November 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Fr. Bernard Pfau celebrating the Mass. The Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Esmond, ND. Visitation will be held in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Sunday starting at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m.

Casket Bearers for Mary will be Nicole, Daniel and Tanner Hoffmeyer, Christian, Patrick and Sean Lehnen, Terry Pfau, Carmen Hoffmann, Timmy and Tommy Teska, Ryan Pfau and Tanya Pfau and Ariana Peterson. Gift Bearers will be Carmen & Mark Hoffmann and Sean and Shea Lehnen. Reading the Sacred Scriptures will be Nicole Hoffmeyer and Sr. Marita Phau Music will be provided by Heather Klocke, organist and Dianne Allmaras, song leader.

Mary M. Pfau was born September 8, 1913, the daughter of Dan and Theresia (Sander) Bachmeier in rural Esmond where she was reared and educated.

She married Michael Pfau on July 31, 1934. She along with her husband farmed until they retired and moved into Esmond. Following her husband Michael's death, Mary moved to Devils Lake living there for 13 years. Mary loved her family. She also loved her hobbies of gardening, baking bread, going to church and praying many rosaries each day.

Mary was a member of Christian Mothers of Esmond, St. Elizabeth's Circle and Legion of Mary of Devils Lake. She was kind and always cared about others. She was the matriarch of her family.

Mary is survived by her 15 children, Benno Pfau of Minot, ND; Edwin Pfau of Devils Lake; Fr. Bernard Pfau of New Rockford, ND; Sr. Marita Pfau of Mitchell, SD; Reuben Pfau of Grand Forks, ND; DeWayne Pfau of Ukiah, CA; Rose (Jerry) Jacobson of Oro Valley, AZ; Diana Pfau of Denver, CO; Janice (Stan) Peterson of Castle Rock, CO; Phyllis (Don) Lehnen of Douglas, WY; Dennis (Jean) Pfau of Fargo, ND; Don (Julie) Pfau of Fargo, ND; James Pfau of Horace, ND; Mary Ann (Rodney) Hoffmeyer of Devils Lake, ND; Kathy (Mike) Teska of Arvada, CO; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Julia Aschburger of Richfield, MN; Helen Zarr of Devils Lake, ND; Walter (Eileen) Bachmeier of Harvey, ND; Philomena Aylesworth of Eau Claire, WI; Jack (Margaret) Bachmeier of Grand Forks, ND; Ann (Ray) Larson of Bismarck, ND; Irene (Norman) Buckner of Minot, ND; Joe (Ruth) Bachmeier of Irvine, CA; Leonard (Jane) Bachmeier of Fargo, ND; Marvin (Diane) Bachmeier of Crookston, MN; sister-in-law, Amelia Bachmeier of Harvey, ND; aunt, clara Fertig of Fargo, ND; Many nieces and nephews and their families also survive.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Theresia Bachmeier, husband, Michael; brothers, Albert and John Bachmeier; sister, Katherine; sister-in-law, Ann Bachmeier; brother-in-laws, Dick Aylesworth, John Zarr and Joe Aschburger; son-in-law, Gary Klee; daughter-in-law, LaVerne Pfau; 2 grandchildren, Jennifer Lehnen and Brian Jacobson; 1 great grandchild, Lileigh and many aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph School Foundation and the St. Joseph Organ Fund both of Devils Lake.
