EARLY SETTLER OF CALLAHAN COUNTY DIES IN B'WOOD

Baird, March 17 – Funeral rites for John G. Bockman, 86, a former resident of Callahan county were held at Brownwood, his home. He succumbed to an illness of a week.

Mr. Bockman was born near Atlanta, Ga., Dec. 23, 1849, and later moved with his family to Oxford, Miss. Several years later he went to Fulton, Ky., where he was married to Miss Emily Gardner in 1877. To the union three children were born, Robert, Joseph and Kelley. The second son died in childhood. Robert and Kelley survive their father. Mrs. Bockman died in 1903.

That same year Mr. Bockman moved to Texas and settled in Callahan County, south of Clyde. He was married to Miss Susie Rylee in 1908. Three children born to this union survive. They are Johnny, Lillie Mae and G. W. Bockman.

After living in Callahan County for 28 years, Mr. Bockman moved to San Angelo, where he remained for four years. He had lived in Brownwood only three months.

Besides his children, he was survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister in Kentucky.
