LAYTON -- Jean Maughan began her eternal journey on January 1, 2006 after a battle with cancer.

She was born March 12, 1925 in Wardborough, Idaho, to Mary Elizabeth Humpherys and John A. Berrey, the youngest of ten children. She married Dale Leth maughan October 13, 1949 in the Salt lake LDS Temple; he passed away October 31, 1963.

Jean was a member of the Layton 17th Ward where she served in many church callings, including the Relief Society and Primary organizations. She especially enjoyed serving in the Primary organization.

She taught first grade at South Clearfield Elementary School for many years. She loved and encouraged her students to "be the best they could be.' Each and every child learned to read before finishing her first grade class.

Mother was kind, courageous and loving to all. She was not judgmental; she was very accepting and loved people the way they were.

Surviving are her three children: Laurie, Layton; Chuck (Erma), Clearfield' and Bruce (Pam), Layton; eight grandchildren; and a brother, David L. (Donna) Berrey. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dale, and eight brothers and sisters.
