Bertha Burk Underwood, 95, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Bedford County Nursing Home.
She was born on Thursday, November 11, 1915, in Floyd County, Va., a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Burk and Ida Light Burk.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ermon McKinley Underwood.
She served as treasurer of the Bedford Pentecostal Holiness Church for a number of years and was a member of the Women's Gideons.
Surviving are her son, James Underwood and wife Frances, of Bedford; a daughter, Shirley Barger and husband, Chris, of Goode; five granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and one great-greatgranddaughter.
The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Gideons International. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford, with the Rev. Wayne Murphy and Pastor David Whitehurst officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 27, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of James Underwood, 1118 Galax St., Bedford.
