Lt. Col. Hal E. Bilyeu
(November 27, 1920 - May 26, 2011)

Col. Hal E. Bilyeu passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at his residence. Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent. Officiating will be The Very Rev. Dr. Jacob W. Owensby. Born November 27, 1920, in Findlay, Illinois, Col. Bilyeu was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He entered the Army Air Corps n 1941and as a navigator, flew 25 combat missions over Europe including the historical low-level raids on the oil refineries of Ploesti Romania on August 1, 1943. He also served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, serving as Asst. Secretary to General Westmoreland from 1965 until 1966. Col. Bilyeu received military awards for his service including the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart. Following his retirement after 28 years of duty he was employed by Commercial National Bank on Shreveport, retiring as Vice President in 1984. Col. Bilyeu was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Marilyn McRae Bilyeu and 18 year old son, Kenneth Lile Bilyeu. He is survived by his daughter, Nanette Bilyeu of Edmond, Oklahoma.
