MARSHALL – Aaron Chris Burnette, 16, died Wed. May 25, 2011.
Aaron was born Feb. 15, 1995. He was a ninth grade student at Madison High School and was a member of Freedom Christian Church. He was the son of Judy and Mike Surrett of Marshall.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his sisters, Danielle, Megan and Madilyn Surrett all of Swannanoa; maternal grandparents, Katherine Rice and Fred Phillips of Marshall; paternal grandmother, Linda Surrett of Leicester; paternal grandfather, Reeves Surrett and Denise Carlise of Leicester; several special friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday in Freedom Christian Church with the Reverends Wade Rice, Charles English and Dennis Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Kevin Sawyer, Rego Gonzalez, Michael Lopez, Christian Lamb, Logan Norton, Andrew Capps, Chris Burnette, Chris Goforth and Eric Lopez serving as pallbearers.
The 16-year-old freshman, Madison High School, was struck while riding his bicycle at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 25-70 near Madison Middle School.
A 15-year-old boy with Burnette also was struck but sustained only minor injuries, investigators said.
Madison High assistant principal Steve Bowlin described Burnette as "a nice, very funny kid. He was a very well-liked, thoughtful student with never an ill word for anyone."
