William Siegel Spears, son of John Thomas and Martha Agness White Spears, was born February 19, 1928 at Bedford, Tennessee. He married Mary Green Dickens on March 17, 1847 at Carrolton Township in Carroll County, Arkansas. He appeard on the census of September 20, 1850 in Carrolton Township, Carroll, Arkansas. He was 22 years old farmer and married. He and Mary had one son, Richard. Levi Brackett age 25 was living in the household. Levi was a laborer. On the June 29, 1860 census William was a 32 year old farmer still married to Mary. They were living in Carrolton Township. By that time they had six children: John Richard, Thomas P., Agnes J., Sarah F., Samuel P., and William D. By the time of the June 27, 1870 census they had moved to Prairie Township in Newton County, Arkansas. He was 42 years old and they had had two more children: Joseph M. and Harriet. On the census of July 1, 1880, they were living at Prairie Township and only five of their children were living with them. Their neighbors included Pleasant Spears and Richard S. Spears. On June 5, 1900, William and Mary were living in Prairie Township. On July 12, 1902, William's wife died and was buried at Sandhill Cemetery. On the April 15, 1910 census record, William is shown as an 82 year old widower living at Western Grove Township in Newton County, Arkansas. He was living with his daughter, Margaret Ella and her husband, Wyatt Shaddox. William Seigel Spears died on May 14, 1916 at Western Grove in Newton, Arkansas. He was 88 years old and was buried at Sandhill Cemetery in Yardelle.
