She is survived by her daughter, Carmen Metal; and her two sisters Marjorie Schroder and Vesta Hyder, both of Goldendale.
Marvelyn was an avid gardener filling her life with flowers and plants. She loved Spring, and would grow lovely gardens of flowers, giving seeds and starts to anyone who stopped by. She loved researching ancestry and connecting with distant relatives. Her favorite thing was taking care of her poodles and collecting clocks of all kinds

Funeral services were held at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel in Goldendale on April 7, 2011, with interment next to her loving husband Calvin L. Smith at Mountain View Cemetery in Goldendale.
