Bernard Oscar Gimmestad –Bernard was born February 21, 1910 in Galesville, Trempealeau County, WI. He graduated from Orfordville High School, Wisconsin in 1927. He graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN in 1934 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. He taught and was high school principal in Orfordville 1935–1941. He then attended the University of Minnesoata where he earned his Master of Arts Degree and also Doctor of Philosophy Degree in English. He continued at University of Minnesota as an English professor. Bernard married Dorothy Blegen of Warren, Marshall County, MN, September 1,1936.
Bernard and Dorothy moved to Tucson, AZ in 1948 because of his ill health. Bernard died November 11, 1949 in Tucson. Dorothy died December 24, 1962 in Tucson. Both are buried in South Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Tucson, Pima County, AZ
