Edna Allen Welty
Edna Allen Welty, was born on February 17, 1901 at Butler, Missouri to R.T.P. Allen and Libby Allen, she departed this life June 12, 1984 at Community Hospital, Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of eighty-three years.
When Edna was three years of age she came with her parents to their farm home near Leedey and attended the rural schools of Red Mound, Cyclone and Three Corners.
On November 25, 1925, at Leedey, Oklahoma, Edna Allen was united in marriage to Wayne Welty. They established their home on a farm west of Leedey and two daughters, Wayna Jean and Helen were born to them.
Mrs. Welty attended the rural churches of Three Corners and Red Star and served as Sunday School teacher at Three Corners for a time.
She loved and enjoyed her home and was first of all, a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her home was her "Castle" and she enjoyed having others partake of its love and friendliness.
Mr. and Mrs. Welty resided on their farm west of Leedey until 1979, atotal of fifty-four years, then Mrs. Welty moved to Leedey where she spent the last five years of her life.
She was preceded in death by husband, Wayne Welty, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen, five brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by their two daughtes(sic), Wayna Jean Young, of Roll, Oklahoma and Helen Smith of Leedey, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
