Alfred W. Brase, 84 of Waterloo, Iowa, died at ManorCare Health Services on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 of cancer.

Alfred Walter Brase was born July 18, 1926 in Horton, Iowa, son of Carl and Hedwig Melchert Brase. Alfred graduated from Waverly High School in 1945.

He married Carrol Sauerbrei on July 12, 1947 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa.

Alfred was a machine operator at John Deere for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He also was a volunteer at Allen Memorial Hospital for 16 years.

He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and was involved in construction of the church building.

Alfred is survived by his wife Carrol of Waterloo; son Alan and his wifeSusan of Cedar Falls; son Steven and his wife Carol of West Des Moines; daughter Janet Morgan and her husband Jim of Centerville, Ohio; son Marvin of Omaha; and son Kent of Waterloo; ten grandchildren: Andrew Brase and his fiancée Tama Peklić, Elizabeth Brase and her fiancé Kyle Barker, Alexander Brase, Suzanne Rahfeldt and her husband Bryan, Daniel Morgan, Randal Morgan, Julianne Morgan, Miranda Peterson, Brittany Brase and Hunter Brase. Also survived by sisters‑in‑law: Lois Brase of Roseville, Minnesota and Rosalie Brase of Plainfield, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by brothers: Gerhard, Herbert and his twin Alvin and sister Irma Mattke.
