She was the daughter of George Hunt Pendleton and Alice Key Pendleton.
She was the granddaughter of Francis Scott Key, who in 1814 wrote the lyrics for The Star-Spangled Banner, the United States national anthem.
On December 3, 1891 as Jane Frances Pendleton, she married Arthur Tilghman Brice at the District of Columbia.
They were the parents of three children.
