Nikolaus was a Hessian soldier who came from Niederaula, Germany to New York in 1776 to fight in the American Revolution for the British Crown.In November 1778 his regiment left New York on the British transport ship the Mermaid.They were garrisoned in Halifax, Nova Scotia with his Regiment von Seitz from Nov 1778 to 1783.
When his regiment returned home after the war Nikolaus stayed in Halifax and received a 100 acre land grant in Harrietsfield,NS. He married Sophia Katzenbauer at Saint Georges Little Dutch Church on Brunswick Street,Halifax 9 Dec 1787. They had 7 children. Nikolaus was buried at this church 7 Mar 1811. His grave marker was recorded but has disappeared along with many others.
