Updated 11/26/2008:

I just received my grandfather's death certificate in the mail. I had to wait to the 50th anniversary of his death before the state of Virginia would release it to me. Apparently being an actual grandson ( not 5th great grandson 19 times removed ) is not considered as next of kin in Virginia. The first time I applied they refused my request and returned my check. I reapplied a month back and it was finally granted. I was able to confirm his cause of death is listed as we had been told ( heart attack ). Oddly enough, the Army has his birth year wrong and listed him as being born in 1919. Thats troublesome for the records. I can't say how that happened.
