He was born on August 25, 1937, in Colesburg, Iowa, to Russell and Irene (Hansel) Brown Sr.
Growing up, Russ received his education from the Colesburg area. Shortly after high school, Russ started working for Kuhlman Construction where he worked for many years until his retirement.
On Sept. 23, 1958, Russ was united in marriage with Jean Geuder. Two children were born to this union.
Russ enjoyed playing euchre, fishing and hunting, especially mushrooms. In his younger day he loved to run his fox hounds. Russ passed the time by working in his garden, watching the birds, riding his 4-wheeler and working around on his tractor. He was an avid Cubs and Packers fan and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Russ in survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean Brown; two children, Mark (Carol) Brown of Colesburg, and Mary (Kevin) Klostermann of Dyersville; three grandchildren, Nick (Megan) Brown, Troy (Julie) Brown, both of Colesburg, and Dustin Klostermann of New Vienna; one great-grandson, Cooper Brown; one sister, Linda (Pat) Oberbroeckling of Dyersville; one nephew, Adam Oberbroeckling; and many other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First, Guttenberg, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before service at church. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Shane Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Brown Cemetery in Colesburg.
