Louis Jucherreau de St. Denis was born September 17, 1674 near Beauport, Quebec, Canada. His grandfather was one of the founders of that province. As a young man, he explored the Red River, establishing trade with the tribe of Natchitoches Indians living close to the Red. That relationship would lead to St. Denis founding the post of Natchitoches in 1713; the oldest town in Louisiana, under French rule. Under his direction, he built a garrisoned fort to fend off the Spanish and became commandant of the Fort St. John the Baptist in 1714. Also that year he would venture into the Presidio San Juan Bautista del Rio Grande de Norte in Coahulia, Mexico. He met and married his wife there, Marie-Manuela Sanchez Navaro y Gomez Mascorro. Her birthdate was April 26, 1697 and she would die in Natchitoches April 16, 1758. St. Denis would knighted by King Louis XV of France for his exploration and relationship with native Americans and his victory at Pensacola in the military order of St. Louis.

The source "LaFamille Juchereau Duchesny" by M. Roy attempted to document the lineage of St. Denis. There is little documentation to the children of he and Manuela de Sanchez Navarro, the granddaughter of Diego de Tamon, Commandant of the Presidio in 1715 at Presidio del Norte. They had many children, the confirmed decendents are:

Louise Margerita Juchereau St. Denis (married Pierre Coutoleau Duplessis and Martin Guiternez de Land)

*Marie Rosa Juchereau de St. Denis (married Jacques de la Chaise)

*Louis Charles Antoine Juchereau de St. Denis (married Marie Barbier and Marie Louise Maguerite Derbanne)

Marie des Douleurs Simone de St. Denis (married Caesar de Blanc)

*Marie Petronille Feliciane de St. Denis (married Anthanse de Mezieres)

Marie des Nieges de St. Denis (married Manuel Antoine de Soto Bermudez)

*Pierre Antoine Juchereau de St. Denis

Marie Gertrude Juchereau St. Denis.

*Burials also at Minor Basilica Immaculate Conception.
