MARION - Pearlie DuBose "Red" Alford, Jr., 59, a retired Mullins police department dispatcher, died Sunday at a local hospital after a long illness.
Born in Marion County, he was a son of Pearlie D. and Leila Pace Alford. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the VFW and Disabled Veterans. He was a former Marion County jailer.
Services will be 6 p.m. today at Smith Brothers Funeral Home with burial in Tabernacle Cemetery.
