5 Aug 1960: Herbert I. Allwein, a well-known resident of Palmyra and Lebanon, died at 1:40 a.m. today at the Barrow Nursing Home, Palmdale, where he was a patient for the past two and one-half weeks. Death was attributed to complications following a lengthy illness. He was aged 65, and resided at 626 E. Oak St., Palmyra. Born in Lebanon, a son of the late William H. and Emma Fernsler Allwein, he was a graduate of Lebanon High School with the Class of 1912. He was a retired employee of the Hershey Chocolate Corporation, having been employed in the Corporation's Executive Offices for more than 25 years. Prior to his employment with the Hershey firm, he had been private secretary to the late John Penn Brock who was associated with the former Iron and Steel Co., of Lebanon. A member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Palmyra, he was also a member of the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus, the Pennsylvania Catholic Beneficial League and the Hershey Fire Co. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Burke) Allwein; one daughter, Mary Raphael, at home; one brother, Russell C. Allwein, Lebanon, and one sister, Catherine, wife of Richard Heisey, of Birmingham, Mich. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. [Lebanon Daily News]

8 Aug 1960: Funeral services were held this morning for Herbert I. Allwein, late of 626 East Oak Street, Palmyra, from the residence. A solemn requiem high mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. in the church of The Holy Spirit, Palmyra. The Rev. Anthony J. Mayan was celebrant. Priests of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey, served as master of ceremonies, deacon and sub-deacon. Interment was made at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lebanon. Richard Zweier, Curtis Zweier
Lee Cappelli, Albert Weir, Joseph Heichel and Edward Leiss served as pallbearers. Thompson's Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. [Lebanon Daily News]
