HATTERAS - Charles Danforth Stowe, 72, of Hatteras, died Saturday, Feb. 28, at his residence.

Mr. Stowe, born in Pamlico, retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a senior chief with 23 years of service and was a WWII veteran. He was also a tug boat captain with McAllister Towing. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #795 of Chesapeake, Va., and a Protestant.

He was the son of the late Fred and Fannie Peele Stowe and the husband of Nora O'Neal Stowe of the home.

Besides his wife, Mr. Stowe is survived by two daughters: Rowena S. Angelico of Chesapeake, Va., and Alma S. Fountain of Buxton; six sons: Ivey B. Stowe, Donnie P. Stowe and David B. Stowe, all of Chesapeake, Jeff A. Stowe, Gregory L. Stowe and John M. ,Stowe, all of Frisco; one sister, Mildred Willis of Hatteras; two brothers: Clyde E. Stowe of Avon and Lewis R. Stowe of Alabama; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles M. Stowe.

A memorial service will be held at the Hatteras Assembly of God on Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don Brown and the Rev. Roger Barnett officiating. Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, is in charge of arrangements.
