Alf inherited his land from his mother and father. Lauretta
inherited her land from her Grandfather Pleasant Worley.
When they married both farms were combined to form one large farm on the banks of the Etowah River on Green Road in Keithsburg, north of Canton. He was known to grow the largest watermelons in Cherokee County. In addition to farming, they raised apples, peaches, grapes and pecans. The only foods they had to purchase were coffee, salt and flour. He was a member of the Cherokee County School Board. All the children attended Chalcedonia School. The quality of the Teachers ensured they were taught Algebra,Geometry and Latin, The house was never wired for electricity because it was too far from highway 5 but it had interior french doors ,cedar lined closets and indoor plumming which was designed by Alf from fresh springs on the ridge and piped to the house. Grandma and the girls would travel to Atlanta once a year to buy China, shoes and winter top coats. They enjoyed a plentiful and remarkable life. A picture of the house on Green Road in Keithsburg is shown on Lauretta's Memorial.
