Lyle Vance Akey, May 26, 1928-July 1, 2010, resident of Mountain View, CA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born and raised in western Colorado. Spent 17 years in the Denver area flower business and then moved his family to Mountain View in 1969. Loving husband to Elizabeth Anne (Horlacher) Akey for 58 years. Survived by children Larry (Sue) Akey; Debi Swenson; Sue (Bryn) Davis; Jim (Debi) Akey; Grandchildren Kara Swenson and Todd (Kerry) Swenson; Colin and Trevor Davis; Will Scriven; multiple four legged friends; and sister Geraldine Dailey. Predeceased by son, Philip Akey and sister Ilene Wright. He served in the US Army in post WWII Japan. Then received a BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Colorado State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Retired from a long career as a wholesale florist after brightening the lives of many with flowers. Proud member of the Society of American Florists, Wholesale Florists of America and California Association of Flower Growers and Shippers. An active member of Los Altos United Methodist Church (LAUMC) for 40 years. Lyle treasured family above all. He enjoyed many RV trips with his wife and family throughout the United States, Canada and Baja; golf with his sons and friends, gardening, and taking pictures. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to support Parkinson's disease research, Pathways Hospice or LAUMC (gifts and memorials). Celebration of his life to be held at Los Altos United Methodist Church on July 9 - reception to follow.
