Walter is survived by his son, Mark (Debbie) Adams; his daughter, Heidi (Stuart) Howerton; his grandchildren, Lauren and Lindsey Adams and Elizabeth, Jonathan and Megan Howerton; and one sister, Gloria Long.
After attending three years of college at Bradley University, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served as a journalist aboard the cruiser USS Bremerton in the Korean War. After serving his tour of duty, he returned to Bradley and graduated in 1955.
He married his sweetheart, Jaqueline, and joined his father in their family business, Adams Furniture, until retiring in 1994.
