Ronald Lee "Ron" Deutsch was born January 24th, 1948, in Murdo, SD, to Alfred and Lucille (Schmidt) Deutsch. Ron was raised on the family ranch located five miles south of Cedar Butte, SD. He attended various country schools including Running Bird, Deutsch School, and the Butterfield Hill School. He graduated from White River High School in 1966. He enjoyed playing football while in high school. After graduation, he attended Wyoming Technical College in Laramie, attaining a Master Mechanic Degree.
Ron served in the US Army from the spring of 1969 until he was honorably discharged in the spring of 1971. Ron was decorated with the Gallantry Cross with the Bronze Star presented by the Government of the Republic of Vietnam. He also received a Purple Heart Award.
After his return from Vietnam, Ron met and married Pam Boes of Mission. They were blessed with one daughter, Wendy Von.
Ron has worked at many different jobs including Bison State Telephone Company in Mission, numerous construction jobs, as a guard at the Custer Correctional Facility, as a maintenance man, and city police officer for the City of White River, as a patrol operator for the Mellette County Highway Department, and for the SD Game Fish and Parks Department. You could say he was a jack of all trades.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman and shared that love with his daughter Wendy. They would spend most of their time together hunting and fishing, or out at the family ranch.
Ron was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and special companion. He was always willing to help family and friends whenever needed. He loved and adored his grandkids, Alexis and Brady very much.
Ron is survived by his daughter Wendy (Greg) Feenstra of Huron, SD; two grandchildren Alexis and Brady Feenstra; his special companion Jackie Wuestwald of White River SD; one brother Jim Deutsch of White River, SD; two sisters Pauline (Jerry) Krogman of White River, and Gloria (Gary) Sims of Maynard, MN; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Ron is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Lucille (Schmidt) Deutsch.
Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral Service on Friday. Funeral services will be May 27, 2011, at the Community Events Center in White River with Pastor Linda Baldock officiating. Interment with Military Honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard will be held Friday at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Chaplain Ralph Vencill officiating.
