Edward Dasbach was born in Quincy, Illinois; he was the son of Edward Dasbach Sr. Edward Jr. was one of the grandchildren of Henry Christopher Dasbach and Maria Christiana (Schaller) Dasbach. His grandparents came to America from Germany in about 1840. Edward grew up in Illinois. Edward Dasbach Jr. second wife was his first cousin, Nettie Rose Dashback Ingersoll. When they wed her last name became Dasbach again. They were first cousins and wed in later life, both for the 2nd time.

They lived in Flint, Michigan for a while. Eddie, as he was known to family, worked at Chevrolet during the height of car manufacturing in America. Eddie and Nettie had no children together, but both had children from their first marriages. Edward Dasbach Jr served in World War One. (This is confirmed through newspaper stories in the newspaper where he was born; and other records.) They are listed as Eddie and Nettie Dasbach in the Flint, Michigan phone directory during their lives. Edward Dasbach Jr. is spelled like that on his WWI documents including his signature, but his father's name is spelled Edward Dashbach Sr., on the same documents.

As for the way his last name is spelled: As most researchers also know, last names are often misspelled even on official documents etc. This family surname was spelled variously as: Dashbach, Dashback, Dasback, etc. The actual way the original Germans in this line who came to America, spelled it themselves, was Dasbach. (I have their signatures to confirm it.) However, on marriage licenses and other things which I know to be correct otherwise, the name is not always spelled the same by clerks, as the person spelled it themselves. Also, it was a very large family and some branches chose other spellings as time went on. The family surname pronunciation told me by my grandmother was "Dazz-back." This may account for the (phonetic?) spelling on Edward Dasbach Jr's tombstone.
