The funeral service for farmer Benford D. Alexander of Puryear was planned at 2 p.m. today at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

Chad Kennedy was to officiate. Burial was to follow in Foundry Hill Baptist Cemetery near Puryear.

Chosen as pallbearers were Don, Grant and Kyle Norwood, Dwain Evans and Mack Pierce.

Visitation was Sunday and today.

Alexander, 92, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

His wife of 71 years, Ruth Alexander, survives.

Born in Puryear on Oct. 29, 1916, he was a son of the late Berry and Johnnie Manning Alexander. He was the stepson of Lula Mohundro Alexander, also deceased.

Alexander attended the Primitive Baptist Church at Puryear, was an active farmer in the Puryear community and a World War II Army veteran.

He also leaves one daughter: Pat Fowler of Camden; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by five sisters: Mary and Ollie B. Alexander, Mozelle Barrett, Desiree Paschall and Jo Nell Holley; three brothers: J.C., Nolan and Richard Alexander; and a son-in-law: Norman Fowler.
