Funeral services for Mr. Walter Handy, 66, of the Bowlings Branch Community near Gordonsville, were conducted at 11 a.m.Wednesday, March 14, 2001, from the chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home in Carthage with Bro. Bobby Peoples officiating. Burial was in the Oakley Cemetery near Rickman with Sanderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Handy died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Carthage General Hospital.

He was a farmer and retired mechanic of McKee Amoco in Gordonsville.

Born March 6, 1935, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Walter and Verlie (Harris) Handy.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Louise (Honeycutt) Handy, Bowlings Branch Community; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Jim Handy, Gordonsville, Donnie and Ruby Handy, Defeated Creek, Bill and Evelyn Handy, Rickman, and Ray and Rosie Handy, Lebanon; three daughters and a son-in-law, Kay and Chuck Wright, Clarkrange, Joyce Cox, Cas-talian Springs, and Becky Handy, Hickman; a sister, Gertrude Honeycutt, Brush Creek; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
