She was born July 4, 1918, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, one of sixteen children of Jasper and Betty Bazar. She leaves behind a legacy of love for her God, family, friends, and many happy memories and smiles. Alva also exhibited a great work ethic. She worked as a manager for W T Grant and Joskes Department Stores in Houston for thirty-two years and retired after an additional twelve years with Conroe ISD at the age of 73.
Alva was preceded in death by spouses Johnny Skains and Otto Smock, her parents, and fifteen brothers and sisters. One can only imagine the joyous reunion with them in heaven. She is survived by her daughter and granddaughter Shelia and Paige Hackey; two sisters-in-law, long time friends, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:30 AM, in Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Before moving to Huntsville, Alva was a long time active member of the First Baptist Church of the Woodlands. Brother Earl Holman, senior adult pastor for the church, will be officiating the service. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, the morning of the service. Alva will be buried at sunset in a private service at the Brooke Cemetery.
A special thank you from Shelia and Paige goes to Lynn Longmire and her wonderful caregivers. Their loving care and support for us will always be remembered. Also, a thank you is sent to Thee Hospice for the supportive care they administered. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that a donation may be given to Thee Hospice of Huntsville, Texas.
