MEADE COUNTY MESSENGER OBITUARY – 10/17/1968:

John Owen Fackler, 18 years old, of Route 1, Brandenburg, died Saturday, October 12, 1968 at Hardin Memorial Hospital (died at Fort Knox) of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was born May 14, 1950, the son of John Curtis & Alice Argabright Fackler, who survive him. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Judy McGehee, Louisville, Mrs. Diann Greenwell and Miss Hilda Fackler, both of Brandenburg; four brothers, Edward, Darrell, Chris and Mark, all of the home. Other survivors include his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Argabright and Mrs. Ida Fackler. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Monday, October 14, from St. John Catholic Church with Father Roland Melody officiating. Interment followed in St. George Cemetery, directed by Hager-Wright Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Bobby Medley, David Chism, Mickey Chism, Jimmy Fackler, Robert Stull and Gary Stull. Sheriff Joe Jones who investigated the accident said it occurred about 1:45 A.M. Saturday morning, .4 miles south of Payneville on Highway 1239. He said the car, with apparently John Owen was driving, and James D. Fackler 19, son of Mr. & Mrs. Rudolph Fackler was riding, went out of control, hit a utility pole and overturned several times. Both occupants were thrown from the vehicle. Both were taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown, where John Owen died about 4:30 A.M. James D., who is home on leave from the service, was transferred from Hardin Memorial to Ireland Army Hospital and at first was placed on the critical list. He was removed from intensive care Tuesday. His mother said they were told he may or may not have to have surgery.
