Confederate veteran. Son of George Lewis Gillespie and Margaret Alice McEwen. Married Amelia King, daughter of John King. Moved to Chattanooga in 1857. Joined the 35th Tennessee Infantry on November 18, 1862, and then transferred to the 43rd Tennessee Infantry on February 5, 1863.
