In East Elkhart, on July 30th of consumption, Caroline, wife of Isaac Bender, aged 33 years.
The deceased united with the German Reformed church in her youth, and until her death lived a consistent christian life. She was an affectionate wife and kind and devoted mother."
Caroline's first husband was Samuel Hartzog whom she married in 1862. She married her second husband, Isaac Bender, in 1869.
Caroline Shick and Samuel Hartzog had two children. Martha was born in about 1863, and Samuel was born in about 1866. Samuel, Sr., died in 1866. Samuel, Jr., died in 1964, at the age of 98. Caroline married Isaac Bender on December 5, 1869. Isaac's wife, Eliza Ann Raber, with whom he had ten children, passed away in June 1869.
