Edgar Bailey was born August 9, 1931, the family moved to the ranch north of Bonesteel when Edgar was a child. Edgar's grandparents James Vincent Bailey and Mary Hull had homesteaded this ranch in 1891. When Edgar was a child he and his family moved to the ranch, along the Missouri River North of Bonesteel. He attended rural grade school north of Bonesteel. He graduated from Bonesteel High School in 1950. In 1953 he enlisted in the US Navy and spent 41 months as a Seabee, serving in the Phillipines in the Mobile Construction Battalion Number 5 in Subic Bay, the Phillipines. On Oct 23, 1954 he married Shirley Clinton, in Spencer, Nebraska. They had five children: Steve, Susan, Philip, William, and Tim. Edgar died Dec 17, 1998 in Yankton, South Dakota, Sacred Heart Hospital. Edgars eyes were donated to an eye bank after his death.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM Monday Dec 21, 1998 at the Immaculate Conseption Catholic Church in Bonesteel. The Clausen Funeral Home of Burke was in charge of the arrangements. He was survived by his wife of 44 years Shirley Clinton Bailey; three sons, Steve, Bill, and Tim, a daughter Susan, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, Tom and Jim, two sister Alice Humpal of Butte, Ne, and Irma Schmitz of Naper, NE.
